Highfield Level 3 Certificate for Working as a Close Protection Operative within the Private Security Industry

This regulated qualification is ideal for anyone wishing to work as a close protection operative as it provides them with the necessary skills and knowledge to apply for an SIA licence. This qualificati0n is supported by both the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and Skills for Security (SfS). Subjects covered include threat and risk assessment, legislation relevant to the role, walking drills, embus and debus, incident management, surveillance and operational planning.

How long will it take me to achieve this qualification? This qualification must be undertaken over a minimum of 12-days.

How is the qualification assessed? It is divided into 3-units and is assessed by the following methods:

Unit 1: Working as a Close Protection Operative Externally set and externally assessed MCQ paper with 25-questions, 40-minute duration, 70% pass mark. Externally set and internally assessed open-response questions and internally set and internally assessed practical tasks.

Unit 2: Planning, Preparing and Supporting a Close Protection Operation Externally set and externally assessed MCQ paper with 30-questions, 45-minute duration, 70% pass mark. Externally set and internally assessed open-response questions and internally set and internally assessed practical tasks.

Unit 3: Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry Externally set and externally assessed MCQ paper with 20-questions, 30-minute duration, 70% pass mark. .

The 14-day intensive training programme covers the following (but not limited to) sector competencies:

• Interpersonal skills

• Use of Close Protection Driving skills

• Communication and conflict management skills

• Venue based security

• Introduction to the roles and responsibilities of the close protection operative

• Close protection team work

• Threat and risk assessment

• Operational planning

• Surveillance awareness

• Anti and counter surveillance techniques

• Laws and legislation

• Reconnaissance

• Close Protection Foot Drills

• Search Awareness

• Incidents and dilemmas

The qualification is assessed in 3 units as follows: • Unit1 - Working as a Close Protection Operative

• Unit 2 - Planning, Preparing and Supporting a Close Protection Operation

• Unit 3 - Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry

All three units are assessed by Multi Choice Question papers. You will also be required to provide a portfolio of evidence and complete a written assessment pack that will be provided at the beginning of the course.

The course culminates into a final exercise where all the skills and techniques taught will be assessed.

Pre-requisites for attending the course:

All students must have a good understanding of the English Language (written and verbally) and will be required to complete a literacy test on the first day of the course or supply proof of their ability to do so.

All students will be required to hold a valid Level 3 FAW certificate (RQF) as a minimal first aid qualification to attend the course. Those students who do not hold this qualification should attend one and Taskforce Global can supply this at a discount price for those attending.
